Excerpt from Śrīla Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Mahārāja’s commentary on Śrī Dāmodarāṣṭakam, verse 6

Those in the line of Śrīman Mahāprabhu, and especially those who aspire for the type of divine love conceived by Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī must have this same kind of determination. This determination of the devotee is exactly like that of the cātaka bird. The only water the cātaka bird accepts is the rainwater that falls when the svāti-nakṣatra constellation is prominent in the night sky. The cātaka bird thinks, “I do not care if I die of thirst. I do not even care if I am struck by a thunderbolt! I will only drink the water falling from the svāti-nakṣatra.”

One day I will draw my final breath
Leave this world of birth and death
No one cares when I’m hurt
I’m tired of being treated like dirt

A blue-eyed saint gives me encouragement
The strength to overcome any impediment

The rainbird keeps looking up
The rainbird never gives up
The rainbird keeps looking up
The rainbird never gives up
Keep looking up

“A rainbird catches a drop from above.”
“Try your best to enter the land of love.”
“See the Lord’s smiling face.”
“Miseries removed without a trace.”

“Firm faith is all you need.”
“Achieving your goal is guaranteed.”
“Love, live, let go and forgive.”
“Nothing to take, but everything to give.”

The rainbird keeps looking up
The rainbird never gives up
The rainbird keeps looking up
The rainbird never gives up
Keep looking up
Keep looking up
Keep looking up
Up up up
