The following is a transcription of a discourse delivered by Śrīla Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Mahārāja in Murwillumbah, Australia, on February 15, 2002

(Śrīla Bhaktivedānta Nārāyaṇa Mahārāja visited Murwillumbah, Australia, from February 12 to February 19. As he did in Germany two months earlier, in Murwillumbah, he was giving nightly classes on Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura’s Jaiva Dharma. The following is his introduction before beginning his February 15th discourse)

Why have I come here, and why am I travelling here and there? Why have I invited everyone to come here, and why am I touring worldwide? What is my mood and mission, and why am I journeying in this old age?

I have come to you because not all of you can go to Vṛndāvana to meet me. Locals and foreigners, children, girls, boys, and old people are all coming here to meet me. If I do not come, everyone will be weak. Everyone will be engaged in sense gratification and give no importance to religious topics and activities. They will forget all these things.

Sometimes, therefore, Kṛṣṇa sends His many associates. For example, Nārada Ṛṣi is always touring here and there, and this is the tradition of our guru-paramparā. Therefore, I have come.

Don’t sleep. Māyā is everywhere, like a tiger, to swallow you. Try to know all the spiritual truths and go on chanting and remembering. This will save you. Your money and worldly qualifications can never help you. We have come to remind you of this.

Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu used to go with Śrīla Haridāsa Ṭhākura to tell everyone, “You should chant the holy name, and you will easily cross the ocean of birth and death. Everything will be okay, and all problems will vanish. If you do not get this result, I am responsible.” I am also telling you the same thing. Chant, the responsibility will be mine if you are not happy. I have explained the process to you, and if you chant in the correct process, you will be happy.
